An unexpected Goodbye... Riley...

Posted by Amanda Beasley on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, In : Cancer Care
This is Riley his last week with us. He loved our children so much, and was sooo wonderful with them. His last day he found the strength to say goodbye to each of them in his own way.
Riley had a sudden, drastic decent health, so we took him in and had ex-rays done, and our Dr found that Riley had many metastasized malignant tumors on his lungs. He was in pain, and we knew that his fight was over. The next day we took him in, and it was heart wrenching saying goodbye. He went to heaven while ...

How to Make Grain Free Treats with Power Mix!

Posted by Amanda Beasley on Thursday, August 5, 2010, In : Cancer Care
When Riley started throwing up his "green mix", I had to figure out a way to make it so that he was still able to ingest all of those great live enzymes, nutrients, etc. without upsetting his stomach. I tried using pancreatin, aloe vera juice, lowering the fat content, mixing it with pumpkin and while each would help for a couple of days, none of it seemed to make a big enough difference for him to actually be able to keep it down long term. So what did I do? I got online of course! I decided...

Warning to those thinking about starting the "green" anti-cancer diet

Posted by Amanda Miller on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, In : Cancer Care
So, while Riley is doing VERY well on is "green anti-cancer diet", unfortunately my clothes, furniture, rugs, floor, etc. are not. I do not know if it is the kelp, spirulina, or chlorella, or maybe is is all three, but something that is GREEN has or at least has tried to stain just about everything in my home that can be stained. Since I have gone back to feeding riley outside again (on the porch) and I am religeous about cleaning off his face as soon as he is done, it has gotten much better,...

Hard work paying off

Posted by Amanda Beasley on Monday, August 31, 2009, In : Cancer Care
I am so happy to report to you all that Riley is doing SO WELL!!!!!  If I had a dollar for every person who came up to me and said "Wow! He looks so good!". They cannot believe it if they find out that he is fighting cancer. Also, I cannot tell you how many dirty looks I have gotten when we go to the dog park and I make him take breaks every 5 minutes or so. When people ask me why I would make my dog stop playing when he is so obviously having a good time, and I tell them that he has hip dysp...

Learning the HARD way...

Posted by Amanda Beasley on Monday, August 31, 2009, In : Cancer Care
June 17, 2009

Unfortunately there is no way to know if your dog's immune system/spleen can handle the raw food diet, until you try it. Well, we tried it and now know that that is NOT the diet for Riley. He got so sick that he was vomiting all day and night and had to be hospitalized for 4 days on an IV. We took many X-rays and blood tests, trying to make sure there was not something major causing the problem, all to no avail. But, all that matters is that he did get better, and he is now quite...

New Ways of Thinking, Buying, Living

Posted by Amanda Beasley on Monday, August 31, 2009, In : Cancer Care
June 1, 2009

Since Riley is fighting cancer, one thing everyone seems to agree on is that you need to make it as easy on their immune system as possible. This means- not feeding them out of plastic, not using harsh chemicals around them...yes that means finding natural cleaners, flea repellent, weed killer (I have just given up on that one...hmm, my dog, or a few less weeds.... that's a no brainer! ), keeping them away from possibly sick dogs (not easy as a foster parent), and trying to keep t...
