We were at the gym and I was trying out a new elliptical.  I told her to  settle, she didn't. I told hr to lay down, she didn't. Then I realized that she was saying that to obey would not be doing her job, so I allowed her to make that call. In the service dog world, this is called Intelligent disobedience: a trained behavior where a service dog refuses a handlers command to ensure safety.
